Mission Statement
To partner with the community to prevent animal cruelty, provide humane education, promote adoptions, and actively endorse spay/neuter programs. We respect and support the growing sentiment that dogs and cats are valued family members.
 
SHELTER

To provide shelter to the homeless animals of Jessamine County. To give them nourishment, medical attention and help them feel safe and cared about throughout their stay.

ADOPT

Increase the adoption rate through local, statewide and out of state adoptions and to utilize the vast network of quality rescues available.
VOLUNTEER
Partner with the community of Jessamine County to become a shelter that the county is proud of. To invite service groups and individuals to take an active role in the S.A.V.E. Center.
EDUCATE

Work with the schools of Jessamine County to educate children on the humane treatment of animals, the importance of spaying and neutering and responsible pet ownership.

Our Goals:

  • Encourage adoptions - converse with all visitors/potential adopters
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere
  • Utilize foster homes
  • Network with rescues
  • Approachable staff and advisory board members
  • 2 County appointed board members
  • Utilize donated funds to better the animals lives: beds, toys, meds, etc.
  • Strive to be a no-kill shelter
  • Market dogs/cats on Petfinder
  • Open House to welcome the community
  • Apply for grants to improve/support the shelter programs
Some of our accomplishments at the SAVE Center in the past 18 months:

Sheltering

  • Housed over 1400 dogs and 800 cats
  • Monthly meetings that include animal stats and financial report with shelter committee
  • Monthly offsite staff meetings to improve communication and promote a team spirit
  • Successfully networked with rescues throughout the country
  • Successfully adopted animals locally, statewide and nationwide
  • Implemented microchipping of all adopted animals and owner reclaimed animals

Community

  • Welcomed volunteers and service groups, such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
  • Participated in the Jessamine Jamboree, 2 years
  • Participated in regular offsite adoption events, including all national Petsmart adoption events
  • Formalized a volunteer program and appointed a Volunteer Coordinator
  • Initiated a foster program and appointed a Foster Coordinator
  • Ribbon Cutting ceremony to commemorate our one-year anniversary
  • Participated in Halloween event on courthouse lawn
  • Provided on site emergency assistance for the Clean Slate hoarding case involving over 200 animals
  • Participated in the Jessamine County Fair with a SAVE Center booth
  • Participated in Volunteer Fair at the public library
  • Partnered with Animal Hospital of Nicholasville and McCaw Veterinary Clinic to have a microchip clinic, exam and dog wash to support the SAVE Center
  • Partnered with those clinics, Equestrian Woods, and Nicholasville Road Veterinary Clinic, Bluegrass Veterinary Clinic for TNR program and/or spay/neuter voucher program
  • Majority of all positions held by Jessamine County residents including staff, Advisory Board and Board of Directors

Education

  • Attended educational seminars and found media seminar to be particularly helpful
  • Provided humane education to classrooms, scout groups, and summer camps

Funding

  • Raised funds for the shelter by participating in Santa Paws pictures at Petsmart
  • Applied for and was awarded $2000 grant
  • Successfully raised funds to treat animals that would otherwise been euthanized
  • Monthly benefit dinners at Cici’s pizza
  • Secured the donated services of Precision Accounting Service
